Luke Combs has opened up about his apprehensions regarding weight loss medications.
“One of my biggest fears is, like, maybe I won’t get an opportunity just because of how I look,” the 35-year-old shared on the February 24 episode of The New York Times‘ “Popcast” podcast. “You know what I mean? And that was a tough realization to accept, because changing how you look isn’t straightforward.”
Combs admitted that he’s often contemplated making a change, as he has “always struggled” with his weight, yet he continues to delay taking action.
“It bothers me a lot that I can’t seem to figure it out,” the country star expressed.
Combs added that he doesn’t “want [his] life to be this life of like, ease and like, everything’s easy. I like when stuff’s hard.”
As a result, Combs has avoided using weight loss drugs.
“That stuff scares me more than I would enjoy the benefits,” he explained. “I feel like I’ve never done anything hard in my life, like, I’m not out digging ditches, man, like it’s not that hard of a job.”
Combs concluded, “It’s just been, like, this impossible nut to crack for me. And I will do it, but I’m not going to do it the short way. And not that there’s anything wrong with that. That’s personal for you. I need to win, like, I need to beat myself.”
Combs previously opened up about his weight loss journey in July 2025.

“Obviously I’ve been working real hard on this record for a long time, and I’ve got this lead single [“Back in the Saddle”] coming out. I’m just jazzed, man,” the “Beer Never Broke My Heart” singer wrote via Instagram at the time. “Good day. Great day to be alive. Kid’s down 30 lbs. Lot of hard work. Lot of missed cakes on birthdays.”
Combs has been candid about his desire to lose weight since he welcomed sons Tex Lawrence in June 2022 and Beau Lee in August 2023 with wife Nicole. The couple welcomed baby No. 3, son Chet, earlier this month.
“This having a kid thing has really messed up my head on [my health] in the best way,” he said during a 2022 interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music. “I want to be around, dude.”
Combs later shared an update on his weight loss during a 2023 appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
“I think my physical fitness and my appearance and my size has always been something that I struggled with, from the time I was a child. And it’s this mountain that I’ve always been standing at the bottom of, trying to run up, but then inherently slipping down every time,” he admitted. “And it’s this thing that I feel like if I don’t overcome it in my lifetime, it will be my biggest regret, without a doubt.”
Combs, who suffers from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), took serious steps to improve his health and lessen symptoms, including going gluten-free in 2024.
“Ever since eliminating that, man, it’s changed my life mentally,” he said of the change in his diet during an interview with ABC News. “There was no intent of, like, man, I should try to lose some weight.”
Combs also told the outlet that he wants to keep up with his health goals.
“Longevity is the goal. Every day you get to spend with those guys is really fun and tough, and you need to be your best self to take care of them the way that you feel like they deserve to be taken care of,” he continued. “It’s a long process, man. It’s a long road. It’s tough. It’s a challenge, man. I struggle with it every day.”
