Larry Emdur Exits Morning Show Following On-Air Mishap

Recognizing the potential for misunderstanding, Larry attempted to backtrack as Mauboy and his co-host Kylie Gillies erupted into laughter.

The famously cheeky Gold Logie winner, 61, was interviewing Jessica Mauboy about her new beauty line, Desert Rose, when he made a joke about ‘four skins’.

Realising quickly that his words could be misunderstood as referring to a certain part of the male anatomy, Larry tried to recover as Mauboy and co-host Kylie Gillies fell about laughing.

‘We’re so lucky we work in television, we’ve got four skins,’ Larry said, after previewing the Desert Skin advert featuring Mauboy.

He then blurted out: ‘Five skins. Three skins. Do you know what I mean, layers?’

After an awkward pause, Larry tried to recover his composure by asking Jessica to get through the segment with a song, but the Australian Idol coach could not get the words out because she was laughing too hard.

Kylie stepped in to try and save the moment with a quick Idol promo, before joking: ‘And you’re never, ever going to see Larry Emdur ever again.’

As Kylie signed off, Larry raced from the couch, trying to control a fit of embarrassed laughter.

Taking to his Instagram, Larry apologised to Jessica over his minced words. 

‘I may have just been cancelled,’ he joked.

‘Probably my last show. I swear this was an accident. I didn’t realise I said anything wrong till I felt Kylie Gillies eyes burn a hole in my face. Luckily I have more than one skin. O.M.G I’m soooo sorry Jessica – I luv uuuuu.’

Larry’s fans were quick to appreciate the humour in the situation.

‘I’ve watched this so many times it gets better each time,’ a follower write on Larry’s post, while another wrote: ‘Trying to change the number made it even funnier. Love you Larry!’

A third person said: ‘Sometimes you just can’t take LARRY SERIOUSLY. He is  fantastic and hilarious. Larry and Kylie, they both make you laugh.’

Larry’s unpredictable on-air antics have been a constant feature over his 18 years on The Morning Show.

Last September, he left Kylie red-faced after performing a strip during a cooking segment.

The Channel Seven veteran and his co-star were joined by celebrity chef George Mirosevich, who offered to help them whip up a tasty chicken dish.

Noticing that George had shed his black shirt in favour of a simple singlet, Larry followed suit – removing his blue blazer, rolling up the sleeves of his white dress shirt, and undoing a few buttons to avoid any culinary disasters. 

‘Can I do sexy pineapple?’ Larry asked George, prompting Kylie to finally intervene.

‘Absolutely not!’ she snapped, leaving Larry and George in fits of laughter as the segment came to a close.

Larry and Kylie have developed a reputation for their hilarious banter on the popular breakfast show.
