It was in 2018 that Erika and Charlie first crossed paths. Their initial meeting was far from a typical date; it was, in fact, a job interview. They met at a venue thought to be Bill’s Bar & Burger in New York City. What started as a professional inquiry quickly morphed into a meaningful conversation about philosophy, religion, and politics, laying the foundation for their future together.
During this engaging discussion, Charlie realized Erika was unlike anyone he had met before. He later recounted to their daughter, “I was asking all these questions… then I realized Mama was beautiful, smart, elegant, and Christ-like, so I said, ‘Forget this job interview, I want to date you.’ I have enough friends.” Erika fondly recalled their five-year anniversary in 2023, highlighting the moment Charlie decisively declared, “I’m going to date you,” a pivotal point that marked the beginning of their shared journey.

In December 2020, Charlie proposed to Erika, and she joyfully shared the news of their engagement on Instagram, writing, “When God writes your love story, you get to marry your best friend.” By May 2021, the couple had tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Their family expanded with the birth of their daughter in August 2022 and a son in May 2024. Erika often spoke of Charlie’s devotion as a father and husband, noting how he frequently asked, “How can I serve you better? How can I be a better husband? A Tragic Loss and a Continued Legacy
The Kirk family faced tragedy on September 10, 2025, when Charlie was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. Following this heartbreaking event, Erika showed great strength and faith.
At Charlie’s memorial, she publicly forgave the accused shooter, saying, “I forgive him because it is what Christ did. The answer to hate is not hate.”
She also promised to continue Charlie’s work and was named CEO and chair of the board of Turning Point USA in September 2025, carrying forward the movement he created.
