In a tragic turn of events in Chicago, a woman has been charged in connection with a fatal carjacking incident involving an UberEats driver. The driver was tragically killed by his own car as it sped away from the scene.
Montoya Perry, aged 33, faces charges of murder and vehicular hijacking, according to a report from WLS.
Authorities have stated that Perry was involved in the theft of a vehicle from 28-year-old Daniel Figueroa around midnight on Monday, as reported by WHBQ. The incident occurred on the city’s west side near Loretto Hospital, where Figueroa had just completed a food delivery to a doctor.
Figueroa’s body was later discovered on the street, marking a somber end to the night.
The police have not released additional details, particularly regarding their description of Perry’s involvement. It remains unclear whether they are searching for other suspects or if the language used was simply ambiguous.
Loretto Hospital and UberEats both provided statements expresssing condolences for the “tragic” incident and said they were cooperating with police.
Figueroa’s father, Carlos Figueroa, said his son “was a good kid” with “a family that loved him.”
“He was too young to die,” the father said. “A parent isn’t supposed to bury their children.”
Figueroa’s girlfriend, Sandra Guerrero, said his mother called her at 7 a.m. to tell her of Figueroa’s death, WLS said.
“Today, it’s my son’s birthday,” she said. “We had the whole day planned out for him to spend it with him. And it, just, I can’t believe it right now.”
She said Figueroa treated her son like his own and worked multiple jobs to help support the family.
