Moby Stands Firm: Responds to Natalie Portman’s Denial of Past Relationship Claims

Moby has once more opened up about his past interactions with Natalie Portman, highlighting the stark contrast in their memories of their brief relationship.

During an interview with the U.K. newspaper The Times on February 20, the 60-year-old musician reflected on his 2019 memoir Then It Fell Apart. In the book, he claimed to have dated Portman in 1999 when he was 33 and she was 18.

Portman, now 44, has consistently disputed this account. In a 2019 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she expressed her surprise at Moby’s characterization of their brief acquaintance as a romantic relationship. “My memory is of a much older man acting inappropriately towards me when I had just finished high school,” she stated.

She elaborated, “I was a fan and attended one of his concerts right after graduating. After meeting him post-show, he suggested we be friends. He was touring, and I was filming, so we only spent time together a few times before I realized his interest in me felt unsuitable given the age difference,” she added. “He claimed I was 20; I was definitely not. I had just turned 18.”

Though her remarks were made several years ago, Portman’s candid reflections have clearly lingered in Moby’s mind.

“I completely respect Natalie’s possible regret in dating me (to be fair, I would probably regret dating me, too),” Moby told The Times.  “But it doesn’t alter the actual facts of our brief romantic history.”

In hindsight, he added, “it’s hard for me to make sense of it.”
