A brutal incident at a Kansas City rap concert has sparked widespread outrage and initiated a police investigation. During the event, a teenager violently attacked a 66-year-old staff member after being asked to move to his proper seat.
The altercation was captured on video and has since circulated widely on social media. The employee, identified as Thomas Schlange, sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured nose, and was hospitalized. Meanwhile, the young assailant was taken into custody and subsequently released to his parents.
Details of the T-Mobile Center Incident
This confrontation occurred on September 21, 2025, at the T-Mobile Center during a performance by NBA YoungBoy. Schlange, a veteran employee with almost two decades of experience, approached the teen after other spectators reported him sitting in the wrong seat.
The encounter swiftly escalated when the teen reacted with extraordinary aggression instead of following Schlange’s request. The video depicts the young attendee violently throwing the senior employee to the floor and delivering multiple punches to his head, leaving onlookers in shock. The assault ceased only when a bystander intervened and separated the attacker from Schlange.
In the aftermath, both the venue and local authorities issued fervent denunciations of the attack. A T-Mobile Center spokesperson labeled the incident as “horrific” and reiterated that violence of any sort is intolerable, while also mentioning ongoing evaluations of their current safety measures.

Official Response and Condemnation of the Attack
Following the incident, the venue and city officials released strong statements condemning the attack. A spokesperson for the T-Mobile Center described the violence as “horrific” and emphasized that any form of violence is unacceptable, noting ongoing reviews of safety procedures.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’s office denounced the attack, declaring that public events should be spaces of “joy and connection, not fear or harm.” The mayor’s office confirmed that the venue would cooperate with police and prosecutors to ensure the assailant faces criminal charges.
Aftermath for the Victim and Investigation
Thomas Schlange sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken nose and facial bruising. There is concern about potential further damage to his eyesight, as he already had glaucoma before the attack. A GoFundMe campaign was created by his grandson to assist with medical costs.
The Kansas City Police Department confirmed that the investigation is active and ongoing. The suspect, who is under 16, was arrested at the scene but later released to his parents as prosecutors evaluate the charges to file.
Cancellation of Chicago Concert Following Incident
The repercussions of the Kansas City assault affected the rapper’s tour schedule. The United Center in Chicago canceled NBA YoungBoy’s concert that was scheduled for September 24, just three days after the incident.
The venue did not specify a reason for the cancellation, but it came amid the viral spread of the assault video and rising public safety concerns at concerts. The rapper’s “MASA Tour” continued with the next planned stop in Columbus, Ohio.
