RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. – The Richmond County School System has reached out to parents following an incident on Wednesday at Lucy C. Laney High School.
According to school authorities, a student is accused of physically assaulting a staff member in the school hallway.
In the communication sent to parents, it was detailed that school administrators, teachers, and the Richmond County School System police were quick to respond to the situation. The student involved was promptly removed from the premises. The school has confirmed that the matter will undergo a thorough investigation in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct & Discipline, as well as relevant legal statutes.
In the aftermath of the incident, movement between classrooms was restricted, and students were required to remain in their classrooms for roughly an hour.

Greetings Laney Parents:
In an effort to keep you informed, I wanted to make you aware of an incident that took place in our school today. A student physically assaulted an employee in one of our hallways. Administrators, teachers, and Richmond County School System (RCSS) Police responded immediately. Out of an abundance of caution, we limited classroom transitions and held students in place for approximately one hour while personnel responded and cleared the hallway. The student was removed from the school, and this incident will be further addressed under the full extent of our Code of Student Conduct and Discipline and applicable laws.
The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and incidents of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our school.
