SULLIVAN, Ill. — Sullivan officials have announced an extension of the city’s water emergency until June 1, prohibiting activities such as lawn irrigation, washing personal vehicles, and filling swimming pools. The original order, which was scheduled to lift on Sunday, has been prolonged due to ongoing concerns.

Chuck Woodworth, the commissioner responsible for public health and safety, and who also manages the water plant, expressed disappointment over the town’s water usage. Despite the initial warning, consumption levels have not decreased, and the aquifer remains alarmingly low—nearly 16 feet below pre-drought levels.

“We didn’t see much of a reduction in water use after the initial announcement,” Woodworth commented.
