Authorities have announced today that human remains discovered in the Tasmanian wilderness have been “provisionally identified” as those of missing Belgian national, Celine Cremer.

Cremer, aged 31, was last sighted in Waratah, located in the north-west of the state, on June 17, 2023. She is thought to have disappeared while on a hiking trip to Philosopher Falls.

Commander Nathan Johnston stated that detailed expert analyses have provided “compelling evidence” linking the remains to Cremer.

No additional searches are scheduled for the Arthur River area.

“Tasmania Police extends its heartfelt sympathies to Ms. Cremer’s family and loved ones,” Commander Johnston expressed.

“Tasmania Police extends its sincere condolences to Ms Cremer’s family and loved ones,” Johnston said.

“While this provisional confirmation will not ease their loss, we hope the outcome will provide them with some measure of clarity and closure.”

Cremer’s Honda CRV was found in a parking lot, leading police to believe she got lost on the way back to her car.

A bushwalker discovered human remains police believed were linked to Cremer only last month, sparking a renewed search.

A subsequent search of the Arthur River located five more bones, two teeth, and a Honda car key.

A report is being prepared for the coroner, who will officially identify the remains.
