In Savannah, Georgia, Mayor Van Johnson has announced that both the United States and City of Savannah flags will be lowered to half-staff next week to honor the late Reverend Jesse Jackson. The decision was made public through an official proclamation issued on Thursday.

The proclamation stated:

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, Van R. Johnson, II, Mayor of the City of Savannah, Georgia, do hereby order all United States flags and City of Savannah flags to be flown at half-staff at all City buildings in the City of Savannah, Georgia, from sunrise on Sunday, March 1, 2026, to sunset on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in honor and remembrance of Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr.

As President of the African American Mayors Association, I have called upon our member and affiliate mayors, as well as the President and our nation’s governors, to participate in this observance by lowering flags in their respective jurisdictions. #RIP#JesseJackson“
