While it might be tempting to craft a variety of dubious monikers for the Trump family, Ivanka Trump’s most infamous nickname, “Princess Royal,” reportedly originated from within her own circle. This nickname, although seemingly straightforward, emerged from a particular incident.
As highlighted by Vanity Fair, the name surfaced when Ivanka stepped in for her father at a 2017 summit event. This move inevitably triggered the usual nepotism critiques that Ivanka has often faced. A former Trump adviser remarked, “This is not a royal family, and she’s not the princess royal,” leading to White House advisers using the nickname behind her back.
Moreover, Ivanka’s stepmother, Melania Trump, doesn’t seem inclined to defend her. This is unsurprising, given the reportedly strained relationship between the two. According to an insider cited by the Daily Mail, “Ivanka will always be a thorn in [Melania’s] side.” The tension seems to be mutual.
In turn, Ivanka has her own nickname for Melania. As detailed in Mary Jordan’s biography, “The Art of Her Deal”, Ivanka referred to Melania as “The Portrait,” a nod to her reserved demeanor. Additionally, Jordan’s book notes that Melania used “The Princess” to describe Ivanka, echoing the “Princess Royal” moniker.
Ivanka’s knack for crafting such nicknames likely stems from her father, Donald Trump, well-known for his own sharp monikers. Political adversaries of Donald often receive cutting nicknames, like “Little Marco” for Marco Rubio, aimed at diminishing them. The infamous “Horseface” for Stormy Daniels is another example. Despite Donald’s penchant for nicknames, the public has not held back in creating equally harsh labels for his supporters, which they find hard to shake off.
Nicknames are common amongst the MAGA crowd and Ivanka has learned from the best
The feeling between the two appears to be mutual, however, as Ivanka Trump has her own nickname for her darling stepmother. According to The New York Times, the Melania Trump biography titled “The Art of Her Deal” written by Mary Jordan details that Ivanka used to call Melania “The Portrait.” Ivanka reportedly created this nickname because of Melania’s tendency to keep quiet. Jordan’s book also claimed that Melania used “The Princess” to describe Ivanka, not too far off from the aforementioned “Princess Royal” nickname.
Ivanka’s ability to come up with biting nicknames is likely a skill she inherited from her father, Donald Trump. It appears that if anyone is a political opponent to Donald, they will be awarded with a nickname that tears them to shreds. Who can forget “Little Marco,” Donald’s nickname for Marco Rubio, which he used in an attempt to belittle the former senator. There’s also the unfortunate nickname “Horseface” associated with Stormy Daniels. Despite the copious amount of nicknames Donald has for anyone who’s against him, it hasn’t stopped the general public from coming up with equally brutal nicknames for the MAGA squadron that they can’t quite escape.
