WALDO, Fla. – In a startling turn of events, a 59-year-old man named James Rodney Amburgey found himself in handcuffs yesterday. The charges? Allegedly shattering a vehicle’s window before hurling a club, studded with nails, through the window of a nearby residence.

The incident unfolded on the morning of February 28, around 9:51 a.m., when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a home in Waldo. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a vehicle with a damaged rear window and a broken right-side mirror. The chaos didn’t end there; glass shards littered the front porch and interior of the home, and a 15-inch wooden club with protruding nails was discovered inside.

Security footage provided by the victim played a pivotal role in the investigation, clearly identifying Amburgey as the perpetrator responsible for the damage.

When deputies tracked down Amburgey, he was promptly detained. Despite being read his rights, he reportedly maintained his innocence, denying any involvement in the window-breaking spree or the violent act of throwing the club.

Deputies located Amburgey and detained him; post Miranda, Amburgey reportedly denied knowing anything about the incident and denied breaking any windows or throwing the club.

Amburgey has been charged with throwing a missile into a dwelling and misdemeanor property damage. He was previously arrested for felony property damage after hitting a vehicle with a sledgehammer in 2020, and adjudication of guilt was withheld in that case; in 2024, he entered a plea of nolo contendere to trespassing on hunting land after a warning and was adjudicated guilty and fined. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $10,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
