In Jacksonville, a wave of excitement swept through the local Iranian community as they gathered at Hanna Park on Sunday. The event was marked by joyful dancing and enthusiastic cheers from several dozen attendees, each celebrating with a sense of hope that hasn’t been felt in years.

Recent developments in Iran have sparked a renewed optimism among those in Jacksonville, offering a glimpse of a brighter future for their homeland. This sense of hope united the group at the park, transforming the gathering into a jubilant celebration.

The community’s message was clear: their actions are not a protest but rather a supportive gesture, akin to a rescue mission for Iran. This sentiment was echoed by many attendees who see this as an opportunity for positive change.

Ali Jaber-Ansari, one of the attendees, expressed a profound sense of emotional relief upon arriving at the event. “It was both unbelievable and incredibly hopeful,” he shared. “We have long awaited this moment. I had to leave Iran for safety as a young man, and now, this day feels like a dream finally coming true.”

“It was unbelief and disbelief in a great way,” Ali Jaber-Ansari said after arriving at the celebration. “We’ve been waiting for years for this day to come. We had to flee Iran for our safety when I was a young man.”

Jaber-Ansari says he hasn’t returned to Iran ever since, but with new hope for a regime change, he may finally be ready to start planning a visit.

“I was talking with my mom on the phone,” Jaber-Ansari said. “I said, ‘I can’t wait to come back, go to the homeland to visit family I have not seen for 40 years.’”

Jaber-Ansari was joined by several dozen members of the Iranian community in Jacksonville to celebrate what they feel is a step toward freedom.

“It was just some problems and some challenges our people had to see just because of that leadership, just because of that mindset,” Mark Karami said during the celebration. “Now it’s gone.”

The celebration was a stark contrast to the scene in Downtown Jacksonville Saturday, where activists organized a protest against the strikes on Iran. The military operation has resulted in the deaths of three U.S. soldiers and people on the ground in the Middle East.

“I know there’s some people that might oppose this, but from the Iranian people, we couldn’t be any more grateful, thankful for the United States for stepping in,” Jaber-Ansari said.

For the first time in a long time, Jaber-Ansari says he’s excited about what the future could hold for Iran.

“We’re all congratulating each other for this day,” said Jaber-Ansari. “It’s a day of celebration and just being thankful.”
