Jim Carrey has set the record straight regarding clone speculations that emerged following his latest public appearance at the 51st César Awards in Paris, which ignited a flurry of online chatter.
The 64-year-old actor turned heads with a dramatically different appearance, showcasing fuller cheeks, enhanced lips, and a remarkably smooth forehead at the event last week. This transformation led to wild rumors suggesting the person receiving the award wasn’t the real Ace Ventura star, but rather a clone.
The clone theories quickly gained traction after drag artist Alexis Stone hinted that he had donned a mask and impersonated the Truman Show actor at the event. On his personal Instagram, Stone shared photos of a life-like mask and wig that resembled Carrey.
However, Carrey’s representative confirmed to the Daily Mail on Monday, March 2, that he was indeed present at the awards ceremony.
Additionally, Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, described Carrey’s participation as “a historic moment” in a conversation with Variety.
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” Caulier shared in a statement released on Monday. “We engaged in eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He diligently prepared his speech in French, earnestly seeking guidance on the precise pronunciation of certain words.”
He continued, “He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend [Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director] Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”
