Sporting JAX co-owner Tim Tebow envisions the site as a true reflection of Jacksonville’s spirit, designed to unite the community throughout the year.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sporting Club Jacksonville has unveiled plans to construct a new stadium in the St. Johns Town Center area, which will not only serve as the club’s permanent home but will also be the centerpiece of a vibrant mixed-use sports and entertainment district.
Ricky Caplin, the majority owner and chairman of Sporting JAX, stated that the entire project will be financed privately, utilizing the club’s own resources.
The stadium, anticipated to seat 15,000 people, will be the focal point of the district, which will feature a variety of attractions including restaurants, hotels, shopping outlets, entertainment venues, and spaces for families to gather, according to The Florida Times-Union.
Sporting JAX highlighted in a statement that the development will introduce rooftop activations, loft-style spaces, green areas, and diverse experiences, creating a lively atmosphere that remains active every day of the year, beyond just match days. This endeavor aims to transform the Town Center into a bustling urban entertainment district, setting a new standard for Jacksonville.
The project is reportedly expected to generate a “substantial long-term economic impact across North Florida,” including construction jobs, permanent operational roles, expanded hospitality, retail employment, and increased tourism driven by regional and national events.
“This project is exciting to me because Jacksonville is home,” said Tim Tebow, co-owner and board member of Sporting JAX. “We’re committed to building more than a stadium, we’re creating a place where families feel welcome, where the special needs community is intentionally included, and where young athletes can see a pathway to pursue their dreams. My hope is this space will reflect the heart of Jacksonville and bring people together year-round.”
According to Sporting JAX, the new stadium will not only be home to the club’s men’s and women’s teams, but also serve as a site for hosting high school championships, regional youth tournaments, college athletics, conference and club championships, major concerts, mentorship programming, and inclusive access for adaptive and special-needs athletes.
“The most successful organizations in our league are anchored by stadiums that serve not only professional athletes but youth players, families, and neighborhoods,” said United Soccer League Deputy CEO and Chief Real Estate Officer Justin Papadakis. “What Sporting JAX is building here positions Jacksonville as one of the premier soccer markets in the Southeast and reflects the long-term infrastructure required for the sport to grow sustainably and competitively.”
The season opener for the Sporting JAX men’s team is set to take place March 7 at Hodges Stadium. The club said a special doubleheader featuring both the women’s and men’s teams is set for April 4.
