Police responded to an incident on the Sunshine Motorway shortly after noon, following a collision near the Sippy Downs exit.
The vehicle involved in the accident did not remain at the scene, prompting officers to pursue it to Nambour Connection Road in Woombye.
Upon reaching the Bruce Highway, the driver exited the vehicle and confronted the police while wielding a firearm.
The situation escalated, resulting in the police discharging their weapons and shooting the individual.
Officers immediately administered first aid to the suspect, who was then transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
A crime scene has been set up and the Ethical Standards Command will investigate the shooting, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
