The hunt for a missing retired U.S. Air Force general has intensified with the FBI now actively participating in the search.
An FBI spokesperson explained, “The FBI Albuquerque Field Office is engaged in this probe. It’s common for the FBI to support local law enforcement when we have resources or expertise that might enhance their investigations.” They further clarified that the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is spearheading the investigation.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office reported that 68-year-old William Neil McCasland was last seen in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Friday around 11 a.m. local time. In response, a Silver Alert, typically issued for individuals with medical conditions, was activated for McCasland.
McCasland launched his Air Force career in 1979, with notable assignments including Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. Before retiring in 2013, he served as a commander at a research laboratory located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.
According to the Bernanillo County Sheriff’s Office, William Neil McCasland, 68, was last seen in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Friday around 11 a.m. local time. The department issued a Silver Alert for McCasland, a system often used for people with medical issues.
McCasland started his career in the Air Force in 1979 with stops at the Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico and was a commander at a research laboratory at the Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Ohio prior to his retirement in 2013.
Col. Justin Secrest, base commander of the 377th Air Base Wing at Kirtland, told the Albuquerque Journal that the base is also helping with the search for McCasland.
“Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,” Secrest said in a statement to the local paper.
