Harper Grace is adamant about not walking down the aisle without her father’s approval.

The country music sensation recently orchestrated a faux engagement as a clever marketing move for her latest single, “if daddy says no.” This promotional stunt, however, was rooted in a genuine personal struggle: her father’s disapproval of her former beau.

“I’ve always been incredibly close to my dad, and the relationship in question didn’t respect me or him,” Harper shared with Country Now during a recent chat. “This person showed no regard for my father, ignoring the values he instilled in me. My dad has always been wonderful, and this guy was utterly disrespectful, which left me entangled in the situation.”

Inspired by these events, Harper decided to convey her experience to her audience through a mock engagement, a notion she found irresistible.

Some people are probably going to think I’m crazy for faking my own engagement,” she admitted “I got so into just the artistic take on it because the song means so much to me.”
