The Trump administration continues to assert that Iran’s primary objective is to develop a nuclear weapon aimed at threatening the United States.
During a media briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Iran “refused to embrace peace, revealing that their top priority is constructing a nuclear weapon.”
“Iran turned away from the path of peace because the terrorist leaders of this regime are focused on developing nuclear weapons to target Americans and our allies,” she remarked.
In contrast, the Iranian government has consistently claimed that its nuclear program is intended solely for civil energy purposes, with no ambition to create nuclear weapons.
Leavitt further explained that President Trump authorized military strikes based on a “strong intuition” that the Iranian regime was preparing to launch an attack on the US.
“The president was faced with a choice: does the United States of American use our military and our capabilities to strike first to take out this threat that has been threatening our country and our people for 47 years, or is he going to – as commander in chief – sit back and watch as the rogue Iranian regime attacks our people in the region,” she said.
