A unit believed to be occupied by squatters is being investigated as a place of interest in the alleged sexual assault of a Melbourne woman last year.

A troubling incident took place involving a 30-year-old woman from Reservoir, a suburb in the northern part of the city. After being dropped off near her residence by a rideshare service in the early hours of December 4, she mysteriously lost consciousness sometime before 2 a.m.

Upon regaining consciousness, the woman found herself in a unit located on Strathmerton Street. Shockingly, she discovered a man allegedly assaulting her. This distressing event appears to have unfolded between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding how she was transported from the nature strip to the unit remain unclear. Authorities suspect the unit is currently unoccupied and may be a temporary refuge for squatters.

Displaying immense courage, the woman managed to push the man away, make her way back home, and promptly contact the police.

In a bid to gather more information, police have released a computer-generated image of a man who could potentially assist in shedding light on the investigation.

The man is believed to be of Middle Eastern appearance, aged between 50 and 60-years-old, with dark hair, olive skin, a thin build, and clean-shaven.

Anyone who may be able to identify the man, or with any footage of the area at the time of the assault, is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
