ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — An exciting transformation is on the horizon for The Dali Museum, as it prepares for a significant multi-million-dollar expansion that promises to be groundbreaking.

This ambitious project aims to seamlessly blend art with technology, creating enhanced educational experiences for the local community.

The expansion plans include additional space for exhibitions and innovative ways for visitors to engage with art like never before.

Continuing to innovate, The Dali Museum remains dedicated to exploring new approaches to display art and deepen visitor connections.

“We draw inspiration from Dali himself. He was an innovator, always eager to explore the latest technology. We’re committed to following in his footsteps,” said Dr. Hank Hine.

Museum Director, Dr. Hank Hine, said in this digital world, they are making the whole environment more responsive and communicative to the observer.

“This is going to be a place that has not only pictures that are silent on the wall, but ways in which the visitors can interact with the art itself,” he said. “They will see beautiful colors, they will see themselves in the art, it’s going to be a place of adventure and excitement.”

The expansion will include 35,000 square feet of additional space, flexible galleries that can be converted to event spaces for the community, and new exhibits. For example, a self-portrait facility where you can see your portrait evolve in any art style throughout history.

“Dali could convince us that these unreal scenes, which he dreamed of, were real. We admire that, people want to see other human beings that can do great things and Dali is always forefront in young people’s minds about imagination, about talent, about seeing the world in a new way,” Dr. Hine said.

The new building, fueled by private and community public funds, will be built to the south of the main building, with a bridge connecting the two spaces. The new addition will hold a learning space for all ages.

“We increase the accessibility of art to a much wider part of our population, we want this to be a place for everybody to feel lifted, enlightened, and entertained,” said the Museum Director.

The groundbreaking will take place later in 2026 with the anticipated opening date for the new addition expected to be in the fall of 2028.
