HINESVILLE, Ga. — During Tuesday evening’s event at the Bradwell Institute, where the girls’ basketball team competed in a thrilling state quarterfinal against River Ridge, newly appointed football coach John Adams made an appearance.
In an exclusive conversation following the game, Adams revealed his attraction to Bradwell was due to the strong community atmosphere and extensive support network, which he deemed ideal for his family’s needs.
Although he has already met some players, Adams emphasized that his immediate priority is to get them into the weight room. His attention is gradually shifting towards preparing for the upcoming spring football season.
“We’re taking things one day at a time,” Adams remarked. “Our goal is to improve continuously, nurturing our players both in their athletic pursuits and personal growth beyond the field.”
“We’re going to take it a day a time,” Adams said. “Just getting better each and every day. Just building men as well, both on and off the field as well.”
He said he does not see Bradwell as a rebuild, but a win-now program.
“It’s always a win-now,” Adams said. “You have to focus on where your feet are. I think right now is really what I’m focused on. We have seniors here and I’m focused on that group and just developing and taking it one week at a time.”
Next season, Bradwell moves up to Class AAAAAA. Region 1 will likely not be an easy one with teams like Brunswick, Glynn Academy and Effingham County.
“I haven’t really taken a look at the region,” Adams said. “I’m a coach that is expecting to win and you always have an opportunity. Just trying to get better this summer and in the spring and change the mindset of our games and I think we will be fine.”
Bradwell Institute has not had a winning season since 2017. They have not made the playoffs since 2019.
