CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A recent survey conducted by a market research company based in the Carolinas has shed light on South Carolina voters’ opinions regarding hemp regulation, as the industry anticipates significant changes at both the state and federal levels.

The poll, commissioned by the South Carolina Healthy Alternatives Association and carried out by Opinion Diagnostics, engaged over 800 registered voters in the state. Although only 43% of participants reported having tried a hemp-derived consumable, a substantial 73% expressed a preference for regulated sales over a total ban.

In contrast, just 13% of those surveyed supported a complete prohibition on hemp-derived products.

“The findings highlight the strong desire among South Carolinians to ensure hemp-derived products remain safe and accessible,” stated Zachary Serrins, the executive director of the South Carolina Healthy Alternatives Association. “Implementing a total or partial ban would not only breach public trust but could also negatively impact small businesses across the state. We are committed to working with lawmakers to establish sensible safeguards that protect consumers, ensure age restrictions to those 21 and older, and support businesses.”
