The Los Angeles City Council has recently recognized a piece of television history by granting the “Brady Bunch” house in Studio City, California, the status of a historic-cultural monument. This decision was reached on Wednesday, with a unanimous vote that cements the 1959 mid-century ranch home’s place in pop culture lore.

Featured prominently in the beloved sitcom “The Brady Bunch,” which was a staple of 1960s and 1970s television, the house’s exterior became an indelible image for fans. Although the show’s interior scenes were filmed on a Paramount sound stage, the home served as the familiar backdrop for the series’ opening and other establishing shots.

In a nod to its enduring legacy, HGTV purchased the property in 2019. The network took on the ambitious project of renovating the interior to match the iconic sets that audiences grew to love, further preserving its cultural significance.

The council voted unanimously on Wednesday to approve the landmark designation for the 1959 mid-century ranch home in Studio City that was featured in the popular sitcom “The Brady Bunch,” which aired in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Even though “The Brady Bunch” was filmed on a Paramount sound stage, the house was used for exterior establishing shots and became an iconic sight for fans of the legendary sitcom.

The home was purchased in 2019 by HGTV, when crews renovated the interior to resemble the show’s sets.

It was then sold to a Texas-based philanthropist and Brady Bunch superfan, who remains its current owner.

The landmark designation gives the city council the ability to delay any future alterations to the home.

“The Brady Bunch” ran for five seasons from 1969 to 1974, airing 117 episodes.
