Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, indicated on Thursday that he might consider withdrawing from the fiercely competitive Texas Senate primary race against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, also a Republican, under certain conditions set by Senate Republicans.

Paxton expressed that he would be willing to step aside if Senate leaders agreed to two major changes: abolishing the filibuster, which currently requires a 60-vote majority to advance most legislation, and enacting a law mandating that voters provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

“John Cornyn is a coward who has refused to support eliminating the filibuster to pass this bill,” Paxton stated on the social media platform X. “Now, Fake News reporters and the establishment are trying to destroy me with misinformation,” he continued.
