JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., (WJHL) – The announcement of Freedom Hall pool’s closure on April 3 has stirred a wave of disapproval from the Johnson City community. Many believe that shutting down the facility will strip the area of essential community and sports amenities.

During the Johnson City commission meeting on Thursday night, a group of athletes, coaches, parents, and other concerned citizens gathered to express their objections. Unfortunately, since the pool’s closure wasn’t listed on the agenda, public comments were not allowed.

Felicia Losh, a teacher and parent of a swimmer, remarked, “We’re still hoping we can voice our concerns.” She noted that their petition, aimed at opposing the pool’s shutdown, had garnered nearly 2,000 signatures at last count.
