Sam Asghari, the former husband of pop icon Britney Spears, has commented on her recent DUI arrest in California, acknowledging that “people make mistakes.” The incident occurred on Wednesday night, and Asghari addressed the situation during an interview with Fox News on Thursday.
The 32-year-old model and fitness trainer expressed his understanding of human error, while also advocating for Spears’ privacy during this challenging time. “I understand that people make mistakes,” Asghari stated. “But I believe everyone deserves their privacy, and I hope the media has learned from the past to respect that privacy she needs.”
Spears and Asghari’s relationship began with years of dating, culminating in their marriage in June 2022. However, their union was short-lived, lasting only 14 months amidst rumors of infidelity and erratic behavior, leading to their divorce in May 2024.
Despite the tumultuous nature of their relationship, Asghari expressed enduring feelings for Spears, stating, “I will always have love for her,” even more than a year after their divorce was finalized.
Despite their rocky and short-lived marriage, Asghari said that he “will always have love for her” more than a year after their divorce was finalized.
“Our marriage was very real to me,” he told People in August 2025. “It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
Spears, 44, was arrested for driving under the influence after she was spotted swerving her BMW in and out of traffic in California Wednesday night.
Page Six confirmed that the troubled pop star singer was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County around 9:28 p.m. local time and booked at 3:02 a.m.
Spears was also taken to the hospital to get blood drawn so officials could determine her blood alcohol content before being released from police custody at 6:07 a.m. on Thursday.
The California Highway Patrol told Page Six on Thursday that Spears was allegedly under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol when she was taken into custody.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ longtime manager, Cade Hudson, told Page Six in a statement regarding Spears’ arrest.
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Spears has a court date scheduled for May 4.
But Asghari wouldn’t be the “Stronger” singer’s only ex-husband to speak out following her DUI arrest.
Jason Alexander, who was married to Spears for 55 hours in 2004, defended her on social media and asked everyone to “slow down” judging the Grammy winner and “let the facts come out.”
“Rumors spread faster than facts, and suddenly someone is being judged before the truth is even clear,” Alexander, 44, said on Instagram. “Britney Spears deserves the same thing anyone else does: facts, fairness and due process.”
Kevin Federline, 47, has not yet addressed Spears’ arrest publicly.
An insider claimed that Federline’s recent memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” is to blame for the “downhill” spiral that led to Spears’ DUI arrest.
“It was the Kevin book that really sent her over the edge, and it’s been downhill from there,” an insider told Page Six. “It really impacted her emotionally.”
The pair tied the knot in 2004 and welcomed sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, before separating in 2006. They finalized their divorce the following year.
