In Tampa, Florida, a man has been handed a 20-year prison sentence for his role in a tragic overdose case. The individual was found guilty of distributing drugs laced with fentanyl, leading to the untimely death of a woman.
The series of events began on March 30, 2022, when a man and woman purchased what they believed to be cocaine from Brandon Lewis Graham, a 44-year-old resident of the area, as detailed by the Department of Justice.
After acquiring the substance, the pair returned to the woman’s residence, where they consumed it. The following morning, the man woke up to a devastating scene—finding the woman unresponsive in her bed.
Upon receiving a call, deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office swiftly arrived at the location. Their investigation led them to discover the woman deceased, with a clear plastic baggie hidden under her bra. This baggie contained the drug mixture which, upon testing, revealed traces of both cocaine and fentanyl.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Department conducted an autopsy, concluding that the woman died due to the combined toxic effects of fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol. This tragic incident underscores the severe dangers of illicit drug use and the lethal potential of fentanyl-laced substances.
On August 3, 2022, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested Graham, who was found with two plastic bags that contained fentanyl and three bags containing methamphetamine.
DOJ said that Graham admitted to selling the narcotics to the victim at a gas station in Riverview. A search of Graham’s apartment revealed more baggies containing even more fentanyl and cocaine.
Graham pleaded guilty on March 31, 2025.
Sentencing was carried out by U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington, who sentenced Graham to 20 years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl.
