The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) made a significant announcement on Friday, revealing that they had successfully dismantled an underground bunker in Tehran previously associated with former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“This subterranean facility was established by the regime as a hub for military operations and to promote extremist ideologies targeting both Israel and the Western world,” stated the IDF. “The complex sprawled across multiple streets in central Tehran, featuring numerous access points and meeting rooms for high-ranking officials of the Iranian regime.”
In conjunction with the announcement, Israel released an animated video illustrating various entrances scattered throughout Tehran, all leading to the now-dismantled underground bunker.
The bunker, which was reinforced and strategically located, was directly beneath the location where Khamenei and other regime leaders were present. Early Saturday morning, during Operation Epic Fury, nearly 50 officials were reportedly killed in a rapid strike lasting less than a minute, according to a senior Israeli official who spoke with Fox News.

The official said that Khamenei spent millions of dollars and a number of years building the bunker, which he did not use on the morning of the strike. Sources familiar with the intelligence say that Khamenei believed no one had the guts to strike him.
The senior Israeli official told Fox News that Khamenei’s confidence was partially thanks to an Israeli-American deception plan that included messaging, signals and public statements by President Donald Trump that suggested nothing immediate was coming. Top IDF commanders even went home on Friday night, hours before the strike, in an attempt to deceive Iranian leadership.

Khamenei was killed on the first day of Operation Epic Fury after ruling the Islamic Republic for more than 30 years. During that time, he oversaw harsh internal crackdowns, including the most recent one in January, which targeted Iranian protesters, as well as international confrontations.
