RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. () – A tense standoff in Richmond County concluded with the arrest of a man on the run, following a standoff inside a residence on Horseshoe Road. The incident unfolded when law enforcement sought to apprehend Ricky Lee Manders, who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshal Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, converged on the 900 block of Horseshoe Road on Friday evening around 6 p.m. Their target was 35-year-old Manders, who had evaded capture until that point.
Upon the arrival of the officers, Manders attempted to evade arrest by barricading himself inside the house. The situation escalated, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to summon their SWAT Team to the scene.
Despite SWAT negotiators’ efforts to coax Manders out peacefully, he refused to surrender. Ultimately, the SWAT team entered the premises and discovered Manders concealed within the fireplace, leading to his capture without further confrontation.
Following his arrest, Manders was transported to the Criminal Investigation Division for questioning, bringing a dramatic day to a close without any injuries reported.
No word yet on what his charges or previous warrants were for.
