Democratic strategist James Carville argues that the conflict with Iran has further harmed President Trump and the GOP’s standing as the midterm elections approach.
Carville, a vocal opponent of the president, maintains that Democrats were already in a strong position to win the midterms even before the U.S. allied with Israel to take action against Iran.
“Prior to these events, the Democrats were poised to secure a significant victory in the 2026 elections; they remain on track for that outcome,” Carville stated during an appearance on “CUOMO.”
Regarding the current administration, Carville expressed confusion, saying, “I have no idea what their strategy is. They haven’t disclosed their reasons for these actions.”
He also questioned the administration’s aim to replace Iran’s leadership, asking, “What makes them think the successor will be any better than the previous leader?”
As for the administration, “I don’t have any idea of what they’re doing. They have never told us why they’re doing this.”
And of the administration’s newly stated goal of replacing Iran’s leadership: “Why do you think the next person is going to be any better than the last person?” Carville said of the next supreme leader.
Carville then discussed his dislike for President Trump continuing to grow amid the war with Iran.
“I always ask the strength to be able to detest and hate him more. I don’t think I do enough. I really don’t, but yes, I genuinely believe that this man does not like the United States, that he does not pull for us, that he doesn’t act in our interest, that he doesn’t like our laws,” Carville said.
“… He doesn’t like the Constitution. He doesn’t like our allies. He likes our enemies. I don’t like him. I just flat out don’t like him. I don’t think he’s thought this out in the least,” he added.
