In the early hours of Saturday, the Daytona Beach Police Department launched an investigation into a tragic shooting that unfolded at the intersection of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Pearl Street in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Authorities reported that a man was discovered with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
Additionally, an adult female, who appears to have been a bystander, later sought medical attention at a local hospital. She sustained a graze wound, which is believed to be connected to the same incident. Medical professionals have indicated that her injuries are not life-threatening, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
Currently, the suspect remains unidentified. However, detectives are treating the incident as isolated, reassuring the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. While the shooting happened in the vicinity of a larger event area, authorities do not believe it is connected to the activities of Bike Week.
A second individual, an adult female bystander, later arrived at a local hospital with a graze wound believed to be related to this incident. She is receiving medical treatment and is expected to survive.
The suspect has not been identified. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Although the shooting occurred within the broader event venue area, investigators do not believe it is related to Bike Week activities.
