In Tuscarawas County, Ohio, a judge has determined that a 40-year-old Amish mother, accused in the tragic drowning of her 4-year-old son, is not guilty due to insanity.

Ruth Miller faced a bench trial on Tuesday, where Judge Michael Ernest reviewed three separate mental health assessments to reach his verdict on the charges against her, which included aggravated murder and child endangerment.

Hailing from Millersburg in Holmes County, Miller faced accusations stemming from an incident last August. Witnesses reported seeing her drive a golf cart into Atwood Lake accompanied by her three teenage children. While the teenagers managed to escape the water, authorities revealed that Miller confessed to intentionally submerging her young son, claiming she was “giving him to God.”
