Three teenage girls have been taken into custody and charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery that occurred at a shopping center in southeast Melbourne.
Authorities claim the young suspects confronted a 34-year-old woman, brandishing a knife and hammer, and demanded her car keys at the Overland Drive complex in Narre Warren around 5:20 p.m. yesterday.
Initially, the woman resisted their demands; however, one of the girls reportedly seized the keys directly from her hand.
A witness to the incident attempted to intervene but was also threatened by the teenagers.
Police responded swiftly to the scene and apprehended the girls outside the shopping center.
Two of the girls who are aged 15 have been charged with armed robbery and theft.
One of them was also charged with possess controlled weapon and other offences.
The other girl, aged 16, has been released pending further enquires.
The two 15-year-olds have been remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
