Tragic Collision in Chicago’s Marquette Park Claims One Life, Injures Three Teens; Authorities Report Car Was Stolen

CHICAGO (WLS) — A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning in Chicago’s Southwest Side, resulting in the death of one teenager and injuries to three others. The group was driving a stolen vehicle when it collided with a tree, authorities reported.

According to the Chicago Police Department, officers noticed a Toyota Corolla speeding without headlights just before 3:50 a.m. in the area.

In response, officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to pursue the vehicle.

However, before law enforcement could catch up, the car had already crashed into a tree along the 6900 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood, police stated.

A female teenager, estimated to be between 15 and 17 years old, was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

A 15-year-old girl was taken to Comer Children’s in good condition and a 16-year-old girl was taken to Comer Children’s in serious condition, with a head injury, police said.

CPD said the Toyota was previously reported stolen.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
