Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has declared that the nation has successfully navigated through its recent economic challenges. He emphasized that state governors are no longer resorting to bank loans to pay employees’ salaries.
President Tinubu made these remarks on Monday during an interfaith fast-breaking gathering with religious and traditional leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
As outlined in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu acknowledged that his administration faced a tough economic landscape upon taking office but has since brought stability to the economy.
“I am pleased to announce that the economic situation has improved. Things are looking up. Pensioners are beginning to receive their dues. We have steered Nigeria away from the brink of bankruptcy,” he stated.
‘We have survived’, President insists
While acknowledging the initial hurdles his administration faced, Tinubu highlighted the progress that has been achieved since those early days.
“It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today I can say with pride and joy that we have survived. No governor in this country is running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” he stated.
He also assured Nigerians that his government remains committed to sustaining economic growth and prosperity, adding that he would continue to discharge his duties faithfully.
Security, unity and future plans
On security, Tinubu said the country would not surrender to terrorists, describing them as desperate due to sustained military pressure.
“Yes, we are challenged, but Nigeria will never surrender. We are going to win and win well,” he said.
The President further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in agriculture and education to secure a better future for coming generations.
Religious and traditional leaders at the event pledged their support and prayed for peace, unity and stability across the country.
