While authorities initially suspected a man’s death was a suicide, his wife has now been detained in relation to the incident.

On March 4, Breyanai Moore was taken into custody, facing murder charges, and is currently held without bail at the Montgomery County Jail in Texas, as stated in a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

In June, her husband, Lonnie Moore, aged 33, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound inside his vehicle, which was idling by the roadside in New Caney. The arrest warrant affidavit, accessed by Oxygen, reveals that a 9mm firearm was found on the front passenger seat.

The press release noted, “Although the scene initially indicated a potential suicide, a detailed investigation by MCSO’s Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators uncovered evidence that challenged the early assumption of a self-inflicted injury.”

Breyanai had informed the police that she was home with their daughter on the night preceding Lonnie’s death. However, interviews and physical evidence gathered by the police suggested otherwise, contradicting her statement.

License plate recognition cameras cited in the affidavit photographed a woman who resembled Breyanai near the entrance of Lonnie’s neighborhood in the early morning hours of his death day. When interviewed by police, Breyanai’s mother “confirmed with 100 percent certainty” that the woman in the photo was her daughter, according to the affidavit.

Breyanai hated Lonnie, claimed her mother in the affidavit, and often wished harm upon him. After Lonnie’s death, her mom said, Breyanai cried often and lost so much weight that she looked like a “crackhead,” which she believed was attributed to her daughter’s guilt.

What’s more, one of Breyanai’s friends told police that Breyanai said she “was planning to get rid of Lonnie on her own since the law would not help her,” per the affidavit, and that Breyanai had indirectly indicated that she shot Lonnie, without words, when she said “I,” then made a gun sign with her finger on her own temple.

Breyanai told police that she had recently told Lonnie in a text message that she was filing for divorce, “because she was tired of his threats, guilt trips and blaming her for things.”

Breyanai has not yet been assigned an attorney and it is unclear whether Breyanai has entered a plea. Her next court date is March 12.
