Kelly Ripa finally witnessed her son’s Broadway debut!

During Monday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa shared that her son, Joaquin, had asked her to hold off attending his performance in Death of a Salesman until the official opening night. However, by Wednesday, she revealed she couldn’t resist any longer and decided to see him during the previews on Tuesday evening, March 10th, regardless of his wishes.

“I didn’t wait for an invitation. I just went. I thought, ‘I’m a paying customer too, and I’m going,’” she quipped.

Mark Consuelos, who attended the preview on Sunday night, March 8th, and accompanied Ripa to Tuesday’s show, remarked, “You said I didn’t do it justice.”

Though Ripa acknowledged she “trusted” Consuelos’ opinion, she initially thought he might have been “just showing fatherly pride.”

“It was unbelievable,” she gushed. “The entire production is incredible, and just to see Joaquin up there took my breath away.”

Ripa and Consuelos also sang the praises of “geniuses” Laurie Metcalf and Nathan Lane, as well as Ben Ahlers, Christopher Abbott, and director Joe Mantello. However, Ripa was reminded of something Consuelos said on Monday’s episode.

“It’s like you said, it’s Death of a Salesman,” she explained. “It’s right there in the title. Death of a Salesman. It’s not a comedy.”

Consuelos chimed in, “Although there are a lot of laughs.”

Ripa agreed, “There are a lot of laughs. There’s a lot of laughs. But Death of a Salesman. And I didn’t understand it when you said it, but I smiled my way through the whole thing because just to see our kid on stage just thrilled me.”

“It’s crazy, right?” Consuelos asked.

Ripa echoed, “It’s crazy. It doesn’t make any sense.”

She also said she and Consuelos “saw people there who knew Joaquin since he was born.”

“And we were talking about it, like, if you had told me when he was a newborn, ‘Oh, 22 years from now he’ll be starring on Broadway in Death of a Salesman,’ I would’ve thought you were on drugs,” she quipped.
