Pastor Eno Jerry Eze has ignited a conversation online following a sermon that scrutinized women’s behavior in romantic relationships.
Addressing her congregation, Pastor Eze highlighted the importance of women practicing submission to their partners.
“No matter what anyone tells you, when it comes to submission, we as women must embrace it. We must submit,” she declared, encouraging young women to maintain respect and decorum when interacting with men.
Observations of young women
She shared experiences from her counseling sessions, where she witnessed women openly disrespecting their partners.
“I encounter women, young ladies aged 28, 27, 32 during counseling, and the way they roll their eyes at their partners is astonishing—the disrespect is blatant. They call him a ‘foolish man’ right in front of me, not when I’m not around. I often wonder, if this is how they behave in my presence, what happens when they’re alone?” she remarked.
Online reactions
The pastor’s comments have divided social media users. Supporters argue that his message reinforces values of respect and commitment within relationships, while critics describe the statement as outdated and patriarchal.
Conversations online highlight ongoing debates in Nigerian society about gender roles, morality, and expectations within romantic partnerships.
Many users questioned whether such advice aligns with modern views on equality and mutual respect in relationships.
