(The Hill) — A van drove through a barricade near the White House early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The Secret Service said an individual drove the vehicle into a temporary security barrier near Madison Ave., NW and H Street, NW shortly before 6:30 a.m. EDT. No injuries were reported.
“The Metropolitan Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team responded and subsequently cleared the vehicle, declaring the scene safe,” officials said in a statement.
The driver, who was not identified, was quickly detained by uniformed Secret Service officers and is currently being interviewed, according to the agency.
Authorities said criminal charges are pending, however it was not clear what specific charges the driver may face.
The Secret Service did not immediately respond to questions about whether President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident.
Several streets and entrances surrounding the White House that were closed while authorities investigated have reopened.
