ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – A man from Carter County, linked to a North Carolina home invasion, is now facing additional charges for drugs and weapons following a search in Elizabethton.
Austin W. Salyer, 30, residing on Nix Road in Johnson City, was arrested on Monday. He faces multiple charges related to drugs and weapons, alongside his alleged involvement in a crime across state lines, as stated by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Working with the Asheville Police Department, the CCSO apprehended Salyer on Monday. This was after an arrest warrant connected him to a home invasion that occurred on February 27 in North Carolina, according to their report.
Salyer reportedly informed investigators that “a firearm used in the home invasion was inside the home.” This led the CCSO to obtain and carry out a search warrant at the residence, as detailed in their report.
During the search, officers discovered a range of illegal items, including “numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, two vacuum-sealed packages suspected to contain methamphetamine, a small brick resembling fentanyl, baggies with tablets labeled ‘Xanax,’ and various other unidentified pills,” along with firearms and ammunition.
Salyer is being charged with the following, the release said:
- Possession of methamphetamine for resale
- Possession of Schedule II drugs for resale (Fentanyl)
- Maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are sold
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony
- Unlawful carrying/possession of a weapon
- Being a fugitive from justice for a crime in another state
All of the suspected drugs have been sent for laboratory testing. According to the CCSO, this is an ongoing investigation.
Salyer was booked at the Carter County Detention Center. He is being held without bond.
