In a troubling case that has captured public attention, a teacher from New Zealand has been found guilty of serious misconduct after recording herself engaging in inappropriate acts within school premises. The teacher, Lisa Marie Edmondson, was discovered filming herself urinating in classrooms and on a student’s hat, later sharing these explicit videos online.

The unsettling behavior came to light when a concerned individual notified the school’s deputy principal in Auckland in May 2023. This prompted an investigation by the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal, which has since confirmed Edmondson’s misconduct spanned several years.

In her defense, Edmondson cited ‘extreme anxiety’ as the driving force behind her actions. Nonetheless, the tribunal’s findings underscore the severity of her behavior, raising significant concerns about the standards of professionalism in educational environments.

The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal recently found Lisa Marie Edmondson committed serious misconduct over several years.

According to evidence submitted to the tribunal, the Auckland school’s deputy principal was alerted to Edmondson’s videos in May 2023 by a member of the public.

They had seen a group of people laughing at a TikTok video and recognised which school it was recorded in.

Searches of pornographic websites then revealed an account belonging to Edmondson which had uploaded more than 30 videos.

One clip showed the teacher urinating on the floor of the classroom while another was of her peeing on a hat left in lost property. That hat had a student’s name visible.

It’s understood children were not in the classroom when the videos were filmed.

The deputy principal was able to identify Edmondson as the woman depicted in a video after recognising her voice and clothing.

Edmundson told local outlet Stuff she had filmed the videos while ‘suffering from extreme anxiety’.

‘I can’t explain why I did it other than self sabotage and treating myself badly for things that had happened. By the time it was reported, I really did not even remember and hadn’t done anything else,’ she said.

In one of the videos Edmondson had talked about having a full bladder while peeing on a classroom floor with her genitalia visible.

The former teacher added she has lost her source of income and respect in the community.

‘I carried out actions that [are] beyond my beliefs and values. I have let down so many people. With the loss of income, I can’t provide for my kids like I was able to. My whole life and my kids’ lives changed because of actions I did,’ she said.

‘I can’t change what I have done, but can make sure it never happens again. I would also point out that this has made me get the psychological support I have needed.’

The tribunal heard the school where Edmonson worked in a fixed-term role had suffered problems with lingering urine smells.

The smell was first noticed shortly after a refurbished classroom block reopened, and it was assumed to be cause by mice.

However, no baits trapped any rodents over the school holidays.

A deep clean finally got rid of the scent but it returned when classes resumed the following year.

The tribunal found the smell would have negatively affected students’ performance and labelled her urination on the hat a ‘deliberate and disrespectful act’.

‘Even if that student is unaware, the use of the school and identifiable student property to create pornography has the potential to cause distress or other negative feelings in students, staff, and the school community,’ it said.

The tribunal decided to revoke Edmondson’s teaching registration after concluding her conduct was ‘fundamentally incompatible’ with professional standards.

It added she had abused school property in a ‘socially and culturally offensive’ manner.

Furthermore, the tribunal found Edmondson’s mental condition was not enough to mitigate her behaviour.

Edmondson was ordered to pay NZ$3,255.87 towards the CAC’s costs and NZ$582 to the Teaching Council.

She is now working as a Women’s Health Specialist.

Permanent suppression orders were granted for the names of the affected schools, staff members, students, and the specific online platforms and usernames connected to the case.
