Sam Asghari has stepped forward to express his support for his former wife, Britney Spears, following her DUI arrest, urging the public not to judge her too harshly. He emphasized that “everyone makes mistakes” and drew a comparison between Spears’ experiences and those of women in Iran.

Speaking on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” the 32-year-old actor reflected on his upbringing in Iran, where witnessing the oppression of women left a lasting impact on him. “Growing up in Iran and observing how women are oppressed is something that deeply affected me and remains a core value in my life,” Asghari stated.

He elaborated, saying that while he doesn’t directly equate the situations, Spears faced her own forms of oppression, exploited by those around her, akin to the struggles faced by women in Iran. “It’s not a direct comparison, but she experienced a kind of oppression from people who took advantage of her,” he explained.

Asghari admitted it was difficult for him to accept that someone living in the United States, a country that champions women’s rights and freedom of expression, could experience such restrictions. “It was hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that, in America, someone advocating for women’s rights and freedom could still be oppressed,” he remarked.

Asghari noted that “it was hard [for him] to believe” that “someone in America” who was “an advocate for women’s rights and wants freedom of speech and freedom for everybody” was “being oppressed.”

The model went on to share how much he “admire[s]” his former spouse.

“I’ve seen what she struggles with,” he told viewers. “Even though we were married for one year, we were together for seven years, so my values for her, my respect for her always stands.”

Asghari, who is a “strong believer” in giving the performer privacy to allow for a “great recovery,” said, “If she made a mistake, I really think she’s a strong woman and can come back from this.”

When Piers Morgan asked whether the exes still speak, Asghari dodged the question.

“I always celebrate the past,” the personal trainer said. “It’s something I like to celebrate and when things get done with, I always will appreciate it for the rest of my life. I wish her nothing but the best.”

The former couple started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2021 and walked down the aisle the following year.

By the summer of 2023, the duo had gone their separate ways, with their divorce finalized in May 2024.

Spears made headlines earlier this month for getting arrested after being pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for allegedly driving under the influence.

She was released from Ventura County Jail hours later and has a court date scheduled in May.

Page Six hears the Princess of Pop is “devastated” and ready to “face the consequences,” which she is “praying [will be] rehab and not jail.”

Asghari first addressed Spears’ arrest on Fox News last week, saying “people make mistakes.”
