Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has expressed his views on paternity and DNA testing, stating he would continue to embrace a child as his own even if a DNA test reveals otherwise.
During an interview with BBC Yoruba, Salami explained that he would not abandon a child he has raised from infancy, even if a DNA test suggests he is not the biological father. He emphasized the importance of the father-child relationship that has already been established.
“If a DNA test indicates that a child isn’t biologically mine, but I’ve nurtured the child from a young age and they recognize me as their father, I would fully accept the child as my own,” he asserted.
Salami also highlighted that the child should not bear the consequences of circumstances beyond their control. He stressed that the emotional connection and bond developed over time with the child are invaluable and not something he would easily relinquish.
According to the actor, the child should not suffer for a situation they did not create, stressing that the bond formed while raising the child is something he would not easily walk away from.
He added that even if such a situation occurs, the matter would only be between him and his wife, not the child who already knows him as a father.
“The child will claim my name forever and will also see me as his father, because it’s not the child that created himself or herself. The issue will only be between me and my wife,” he concluded.
