SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois residents are voicing concerns about the volume of commercials on streaming services, claiming that these ads often blare at higher decibels than the shows or movies they accompany.
In response to these complaints, a new legislative proposal has been introduced in the Illinois Senate.
Senate Bill 3222 (SB3222), championed by State Sen. Doris Turner, a Democrat from Springfield, seeks to mandate that streaming platforms regulate the volume of their advertisements to match the levels of the content they accompany. This measure would extend the same rules that traditional television broadcasters already follow.
