Authorities in Riverside, California, are currently conducting an investigation following the discovery of two deceased individuals found within close proximity of each other near the county courthouse.
The Riverside Police Department reported that they responded to a call shortly after 2 a.m. concerning “a subject down.” Upon arrival, officers discovered a second individual nearby, with both victims suffering from injuries that have yet to be identified.
Tragically, both individuals were declared dead at the scene.
Initial reports from KTLA suggested that the victims, a man and a woman, may have been stabbed. However, officials later stated they could not yet confirm the cause of death.
Local workers in the vicinity have shared with the station that they suspect at least one of the deceased individuals was experiencing homelessness.
“Everybody loves him,” one person said. “He’s been out there for years. We give him blankets and food. He’s just always a happy guy.”
While police said it was unclear if the man and woman knew one another, the neighborhood workers said the pair “often kept to themselves.”
It’s unknown if police have identified a suspect.
