Reality TV Update
Barbara Evans has taken legal action to gain emergency custody of her grandson, Jace Evans, following reports of his recent admission to a mental health facility.
Jenelle Evans, known for her past role in reality TV, is preparing for another custody battle, this time involving her teenage son, Jace. Amidst the buzz surrounding Jenelle’s rekindled relationship with David Eason, her mother, Barbara Evans, has been making strategic moves to distance Jenelle from Jace. She has initiated legal proceedings to alter the current custody arrangement.
Barbara Evans seeks custody of Jace Evans again
Barbara Evans is taking firm steps to reclaim custody of 16-year-old Jace, no longer willing to let Jenelle dictate his future. According to Ashley Reality Roundup Group, Barbara filed a motion on March 11 for full custody. Additionally, she sought an ex parte order, which allows for emergency custody without requiring the other party’s input. The family is expected to appear in court on April 13 to resolve the matter.
Barbara has opted to keep the situation as private as possible. Jenelle, on the other hand, has not. She’s been busy beefing on social media with just about everyone. Barbara is one of her main targets, and a recent Twitter tirade appears to be directed at Barbara’s bid for custody. In the meantime, David Eason’s criminal case for abusing Jace Evans back in 2023 is still active, too.
When did she give up custody?
Jace Evans spent most of his life in his grandmother’s care. Barbara Evans was granted custody of Jace Evans when he was still a toddler. In those early years, Jenelle, then barely out of her teens, was more interested in partying than parenting. Barbara maintained custody of Jace even as Jenelle welcomed other children, and briefly took on custody of Ensley Eason during a 2019 CPS investigation.
While Jenelle attempted to regain custody of Jace several times, she was only granted legal and physical custody of the boy in 2023. He was already 13. The custody transfer was facilitated by Barbara’s agreement to the move. She might now regret that decision. Trouble began almost immediately, with multiple reports of a missing teen being filed by Jenelle.
In October 2023, Jace was allegedly assaulted by David Eason. From there, he was removed from his mother’s care and moved around until February 2024, when he was returned to her after she filed for legal separation from Eason. In May 2024, Jenelle moved her family to Las Vegas, a decision that Jace reportedly had difficulty with. He returned to North Carolina in August 2025 to live with his grandmother. He was living with Barbara until a February incident prompted a 911 call. Barbara’s attempt to regain custody of Jace would likely allow her to make medical decisions for the boy again. Reports suggest she’s been visiting the teen regularly while he’s in an inpatient facility.
