GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The mother of a 17-year-old who was tragically abducted and murdered while on holiday in Myrtle Beach is seeking to revive her civil lawsuit against her daughter’s killer.

On Thursday, Dawn Conley Pleckan filed a motion in the Georgetown County Common Pleas Court, alleging that Raymond Moody is concealing assets owed to her following a substantial $700 million wrongful death judgment rendered in February 2023.

Moody was found guilty of the murder of Brittanee Drexel, a teenager from New York, who was killed in April 2009 in Georgetown County. In January 2023, Conley initiated legal action against Moody for causing intentional emotional distress, accusing him of not only taking her daughter’s life but also of deceiving the public for years as the case garnered widespread media attention.

After an exhaustive investigation spanning years, which included following numerous leads, authorities finally charged Moody with murder in May 2022. This development came after they verified that the remains discovered in a wooded area along Old Town Avenue in Harmony Township belonged to Drexel, who had last been seen in Myrtle Beach.

At one point during court proceedings, Moody expressed remorse for raping, kidnapping and killing Drexel in 2009 after she came to Myrtle Beach from Rochester, New York, with friends for spring break.

“I’m at a loss for words. I mean,” Moody said. “I just have so much regret. I’ve realized it doesn’t matter how sincere I am about how I feel about things I’ve done. It’s just not enough.”

Meanwhile, Moody’s former girlfriend Angel Vause — who’s serving 18 years in federal prison for lying to the FBI during its investigation — has until Monday to answer a motion by prosecutors pushing to deny her appeal.
