A man from West Virginia has been apprehended after authorities found his wife’s body wrapped in a blanket on their home’s porch, while their child remained inside the residence.
Leroy Hunt faces first-degree murder charges concerning the death of Christina Hunt. Additionally, he is charged with child neglect, posing a significant risk of serious harm or death, as reported by the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.
Authorities responded to the Hunts’ rural home near Delburton, West Virginia, on March 13, around 10 a.m., following a request for a welfare check.
Upon arrival, deputies found Christina’s body “on the porch of the residence covered by a blanket,” according to officials.
Leroy initially resisted but eventually surrendered to Mingo County Sheriff’s deputies and West Virginia State Police Troopers after a brief standoff, leading to his arrest without further incident.

“The investigation indicates that Leroy Hunt allegedly murdered his wife, Christina Hunt, as she was entering their residence,” the sheriff’s office said. “Their 2-year-old child was inside the home at the time of the incident.”
Leroy is accused of shooting his wife in the head with a 9mm pistol, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Oxygen.
He also allegedly fired “several shots into the hillside” near their home, authorities said in the court documents.
The shootings placed his young child at risk of injury or death, authorities alleged in the criminal complaint, leading to the child neglect charges against him.
The couple’s child—who was not identified by the sheriff’s office—was not injured during the incident.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted by the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office, WCHS reported.
Where is Leroy Hunt Now?
Leroy is currently being held at the West Virginia Regional Jail & Correctional Facility Authority, per jail records reviewed by that no bond has been set in the case.
It’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney.
The sheriff’s office has said the investigation remains “active and ongoing.”
