Team USA Falls Short in WBC Final Against Venezuela

In a dramatic showdown at the World Baseball Classic final, Team USA fell to Venezuela on Tuesday evening in Miami, where legendary players faltered in a surprising turn of events.

Venezuela clinched a well-earned 3-2 triumph, with thousands of their supporters filling the stadium to celebrate a win that transcended the sport itself.

“Our people back home will be celebrating for a week,” said manager Omar Lopez, as the festivities had already erupted in the stands of Miami, home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the U.S.

Amid tears of joy, Eugenio Suarez, whose double secured the victory, expressed, “No one believed in Venezuela, but now we are champions. This victory is for the entire Venezuelan nation.”

Shortly after the game, President Trump reiterated his previous day’s remarks suggesting Venezuela as America’s 51st state, posting “STATEHOOD!!!” on Truth Social. Despite the political undercurrents, including Trump’s recent ousting of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which led to his imprisonment in Brooklyn, the players stayed focused on the game.

But as impressed as Trump is with the Venezuela team, he’d have recoiled at such a toothless US attack on Tuesday on a night of disaster. Their brutally powerful lineup fell deathly silent, Aaron Judge again wilting on the big stage and striking out three times, going 0 for 4 overall.

It’s reputation that the New York Yankees star is struggling to shake but Judge symbolized a wider problem for the USA lineup on Tuesday. Through seven innings, they had only managed two hits.

But then up stepped Bryce Harper, with a home run that deserved to be remembered for so much more. It was a swing of beauty from the Philadelphia Phillies star, a missile over the center field wall off Andres Machado to tie the game 2-2 in the eighth.

From there, such a huge momentum shift made it feel like there would only be one winner. But incredibly, there was another twist and it was in Venezuela’s favor.

At the top of the ninth, Suarez sent Garrett Whitlock deep into left field after Luis Arraez was walked and pinch-runner Javier Sanoja had then stolen second. Sanoja rounded third and made it home for a 3-2 lead and there was an explosion in the Venezuela dugout.

Moments later, as Roman Anthony struck out, those celebrations reignited once again, this time for good. There were tears of joy throughout the Venezuela lineup as they claimed victory in the tournament for the first time ever.

‘It means everything, this is for our country, every one of them. We are going to enjoy this now,’ starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez said through his tears on the field after the game.

Indeed for Venezuela, this is a victory that means so much after recent turmoil faced by the country with Trump using military force to remove President Nicolas Maduro in early January.

On Monday night, when Venezuela beat Italy to reach the final, Trump took to social media to claim credit for their performances and said they should become America’s 51st state.

Just 24 hours earlier, Trump wrote: ‘Wow! Venezuela defeated Italy tonight, 4-2, in the WBC (Baseball!) Semifinal.

‘They are looking really great. Good things are happening to Venezuela lately! I wonder what this magic is all about? STATEHOOD 51 ANYONE?’

Acting Venezuela President Delcy Rodriguez took to X after the team’s win, saying: ‘Venezuela triumphs united! For the first time, we are champions of the World Baseball Classic.

‘This triumph is the victory of the passion, talent, and unity that define us as Venezuelans. An achievement that will remain forever in the heart of our country. VIVA VENEZUELA!’

Venezuela entered the tournament as fourth-favorite but were deserving champions by the end of Tuesday night.

As for Judge and his team, they looked devastated as they received their runners-up medals, but they only have themselves to blame.

They were deservedly beaten and now have to shake off the misery before the start of the Major League Baseball season next week.
